Coffee Heroes

Belinda Asta is an up-and-coming author of children’s books with her first book, ‘Coffee Heroes’ being released. While Coffee may seem like an odd topic for children, it unravels the mystery of their parents’ infatuation with it and let’s face it how many children haven’t sat with their parents having a coffee and themselves enjoying the pleasure of a babyccino or hot chocolate.
As a Primary School teacher, I have found that the rhyme and rhythm of ‘Coffee Heroes’, along with its captivating images make this book engaging, easy to listen to and aids students’ ability to predict text. Most of all it is fun to read. This book is a great resource for teachers to read to their classes aloud to foster enjoyment of reading as well for students to read independently. Its structure as a narrative lends itself to being used as a teaching aid for students and teachers together to deconstruct the setting, introduction and development of characters through description and speech, complication and resolution.
In addition, 'Coffee Heroes' can easily be used as a stimulus for discussion of a number of important social skills and school values such as resilience, teamwork and empowering others.
Finally, 'Coffee Heroes' is an informative book about the making of a cup of coffee for children, adults and coffee lovers alike.
